Dealing with the Holidays Thanksgiving and Christmas can be particularly difficult times for those who are adjusting to the death of a loved one. During this season, often observed with joy and festivity, we especially miss those we have loved and lost.
Recently, our funeral home hosted a “Holiday Service of Remembrance”. We offered a special memorial to each of the families we have served during this past year and suggestions on how this holiday season can still be made very special.
Please consider the following tips on how to make this holiday season a special time for you and your family:
*Plan ahead and let others know what you want to do.
*Pace yourself...allow plenty of time for rest and relaxation.
*Give a special memorial gift to a favorite charity in honor of your loved one.
*Make a special wreath or decoration for the cemetery.
*Volunteer with a non-profit organization.
*During Thanksgiving or Christmas, light a special candle in honor of your loved one.
*Cook your loved one's favorite meal and invite someone special over to share it with you.
*Commit some time to sharing favorite stories and reflections with your family.
*Be willing to do things differently...life is not the same now and you do not have to pretend like it is.
