Lloyd Herman Rietveld, age 82 of Knoxville passed away at the Knoxville Hospital on Thursday morning March 27, 2014.
Lloyd was born November 22, 1931 in Swan, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Bernice Rietveld. Lloyd and his family lived in Swan until he was four when they moved to a farm between Knoxville and Pella. Lloyd went to country school and helped on the family farm.
On October 6, 1961 Lloyd and Linda Kay Jelsma were united in marriage. Lloyd and Linda shared 52 years of marriage and were blessed with two children: Bob and Cheryl.
Lloyd farmed all his life. He farmed and painted when he was younger. Later he farmed and drove a propane truck for Vander Zyl's. After retiring from farming, Lloyd and Linda moved to Knoxville.
Lloyd was very handy. He was wonderful at wood whittling and early in life he fished and boated. Lloyd was a talented artist and had a dry wit that will be missed.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 52 years Linda Rietveld of Knoxville; their children, Bob (Lou Ellen) Rietveld of Knoxville and Cheryl (Dan) Perfili of Mitchell, SD; and three grandchildren, Clarissa Rietveld, Bob L. (Lindsey) Rietveld and Zach Tassler. Lloyd is also survived by two sisters, Arlene Schakel of Knoxville, Dena White of Harrisburg, IL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Bernice Rietveld; step grandson, Shain Tassler; an infant great grandchild; one brother, Fred Rietveld; two sisters, one in infancy and Arvena Schuring; three brothers-in-law, Jake Schuring, Dexter Schakel and Ron White; and one sister-in-law, Pauline Rietveld.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday March 31, 2014, at the Christ’s Church of Knoxville, with Pastors Ethan Book and Bruce Rietveld officiating. Burial will follow services at the Oakwood Cemetery of Pella.
Visitation For Lloyd will begin at 12:00 noon on Sunday, March 30th, at the Winfield Funeral Home, with Lloyd’s family present 6 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday evening at the Winfield Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established to Lloyd’s family. Condolences may be sent to The Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville is helping Lloyd’s family with arrangements.
