| Bob “Mac” McRoberts passed away November 9, 2013, at his home near Knoxville.
Bob was born on April 20, 1930 in Chariton, Iowa, the son of Andrew McClain and Harriette Lucille (Clowser) McRoberts.
Bob was raised in Chariton and graduated from Chariton High School, Class of 1949. In January 1951, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy, serving onboard the USS Thomas Jefferson during the Korean War. He wa s honorably discharged in January of 1955. On January 15, 1956 he was united in marriage to Betty Darlene Kline at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. To this union three children were born: Cynthia Lynn, Mark Warren, and Steven Kyle.
Bob worked many years at United Food Store in Knoxville before working for Hormel Foods from which he retired in 1995 after 18 years of service. Bob dedicated many years to volunteering on behalf of the community, serving on the Knoxville School Board for six years and on the Marion County Fair Board for many years.
Bob had many joys in life, but family came first; especially his grandchildren. Bob was a man that was always there if anybody needed anything and honestly would have given you his last dime and the shirt off his back. He enjoyed watching many Marion County and Iowa State Fair sheep shows, the Iowa Hawkeyes, traveling to Branson, and professional wrestling – swearing by its reality. Bob was a kindhearted, generous, and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend that will be missed so very much.
Bob was preceded by his parents; infant daughter, Cynthia Lynn; one sister, Anna Marie Musick; and five brothers, Andrew, Martin, David, Bernard and Eugene. Those left to honor his life and memory include his wife of 57 years Betty of rural Knoxville; sons Mark (Kim) McRoberts of Knoxville and Steve (Lynnette) McRoberts of Monroe; 8 grandchildren, Joshua, Jared (Jen), Jacen, Connor, Delaney, and Hallie McRoberts, and Dylan and Kody Kramer. Bob is also survived by his in laws, Margaret, Beverly and Treva McRoberts, Darlene Kline, Emma Poffenbarger, Jerry (Sharon) Kline, and Lyle (Lin) Williams and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville, with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Burial with military rites will follow services at Graceland Cemetery also of Knoxville.
