Edward Delno Chambers, Jr. age 86 of Oskaloosa passed Monday evening, July 8, 2013, at his residence in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Ed was born in Pershing, Iowa on March 23, 1927, the son of Edward and Zella Myrtle (Light) Chambers. Ed lived and attended school in Pershing. Ed served in the United States Army from May 16, 1945 to August 20, 1946. He served in Germany with the 10th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Division during WWII, receiving the Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
On November 20, 1948 Ed and Doris Irene Beaver were united in marriage. Ed and Doris shared over 64 years of marriage and were blessed with two children: Shirley and William.
Ed enjoyed life and he enjoyed working. He had many jobs during his life. He had worked for Maytag, farmed, the Ford Motor Company in Knoxville and Montezuma, the Harvey Rock Quarry and he had worked for the city of Knoxville and later Marion County. From 1973 until his retirement in 1989 Ed worked with PAMCO as a welder and box installer. Ed enjoyed Farmall Tractors, collecting eagles and barn statues, working in his flower garden and his rose bushes. He especially enjoyed being with his family and watching his son work and drive machinery. As a younger man he enjoyed horses, pheasant hunting, riding a motorcycle and his dune buggy.
Ed is survived by his wife Doris Chambers of Oskaloosa; his children: Shirley (Dale) Drury of St. Louis, MO, and William “Bill” (Kathy Fox) Chambers of Bussey; five grandchildren: Eric Clanton, Darren Drury, Kelly (Mark) Bruxvoort, Krystal (Brent) Lanphier and Rosella (J.R. Draughn) Chambers; and six great-grandchildren: Lance, Emma, Sophia, Logan, Dalton and Gabe. Ed is also survived by Elizabeth Chambers of Oskaloosa; two sisters: Jean (Bill) Vande Kamp and Lila (Dean) Donohue both of Knoxville; and one brother Randle (Berneil) Chambers of Knoxville.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Zella; great-granddaughter Alexandria Harris; three brothers: Harold, Robert and Raymond Chambers; and four sisters: Verna Chambers, Iva Pearl “Tootie” Nicholson, Loretta Chambers, and Ida Dee Chambers.
Ed’s family will be greeting friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. A graveside funeral service with military rites will follow at 11:30 a.m., with Pastor Adrian Wolfe officiating.
