Cynthia Marie “Cindy” Hopkins age 52 of rural Knoxville passed away Thursday evening, March 28, 2013 at the Mercy Medical Center of Des Moines, Iowa.
Cynthia was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on March 5, 1961 to Robert and Mary Anne (Van Alst) Funk. Cindy was a graduate of Davis County High School, Class of 1979. After high school she attended Southwestern Community College and received her LPN degree. Later she received her RN degree from Indian Hills Community College and a bachelors of nursing degree from the University of Iowa.
Cynthia was united in marriage to Steven Ray Hopkins September 17, 1988. Cindy and Steve shared over 24 years of marriage and were blessed with four children: Kateland, Tiffany, Emily and Logan.
Cindy worked in the health care field all her life. For 29 years Cindy worked for the V.A. Medical Centers in Knoxville and most recently in Des Moines. She currently was a case manager of mental health.
Cindy loved being a wife and a mother and she enjoyed raising her family. Cindy was a wonderful cook, enjoyed traveling, playing cards, sports and when her children were younger she helped coach softball.
Cindy is survived by her husband Steve Hopkins of rural Knoxville; their children: Tiffany Hopkins of Cedar Falls, Emily Hopkins of Harvey and Logan Hopkins of rural Knoxville. Cindy is also survived by two sisters: Bee Anne (Lee)Hamre of Floris and Rosezelma Funk of Ottumwa. She was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Mary and her daughter Kateland Ray Hopkins.
Cindy’s wishes were to be cremated and visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Celebrate Community Church of Knoxville. Cindy’s family will be greeting friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at the church.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2nd, at the Celebrate Community Church of Knoxville. A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Drakesville Cemetery of Drakesville, Iowa.
A memorial has been established in Cindy’s name to St. Jude’s Hospital. Condolences may be sent to The Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville is assisting the family with arrangements.
