Lola “Little Bill” Vohl age 97 of Knoxville passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the West Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Knoxville, Iowa.
Lola was born in Bussey, Iowa on February 10, 1916 to Gearge M. and Catherine (Nelson) Godfrey.
Lola was united in marriage to Commodore Dewey Cox. Lola and Commodore were blessed with two children: James Wesley and Annette Marie. Commodore passed away on January 1, 1961. Lola was later united in marriage to Leslie Mick Vohl.
Lola worked at the Knoxville V. A. in the laundry and later was a bartender at Fortunes and Lucy’s.
Lola loved to fish and hunt. She always enjoyed her flower gardens and to feed the birds and squirrels. She was lifetime member of the V.F.W. auxiliary and she was a member of the Ground Observer Corp in the 1940’s. She also enjoyed coffee time with her friends and neighbors and her camping friends from the Nationals. Her camping friends were like family. Lola was an exceptionally good cook. She loved canning the veggies from her garden. Lola especially loved her grandchildren and she will be missed by all that knew her.
Lola is survived by her son: James Cox and James' two children: Jamacia and Jamie; her daughter Annette Grimes and Annette's two daughters: Katherine (Doug) Bogaards and Suzanne Grimes Anderson. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Dustin Shinn, Aaron Shinn, Cody Paul Grimes and Virgil Sparks; great great-grandsons: Carter and Brady Shinn; and two sister-in-laws: Virginia Swenson and Violet Cox.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents: George and Catherine Godfrey; her husbands: Commodore Dewey Cox and Leslie Mick Vohl; four brothers: Bert Morgan, Everett, Jack and Gene Godfrey; two sisters: Mary Duroche and Etta Godfrey; one infant granddaughter, Cindy Marie Grimes; and one grandson, Michael Grimes.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville. Lola’s family will be greeting friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 1st, at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville. Burial will follow services at the Greenwood Cemetery of rural Knoxville.
A memorial has been established in Lola’s name to Hospice Care Services of Knoxville. Condolences may be sent to WWW.winfieldfh.com. The Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville is assisting the family with arrangements.
