Jenella Bailey was born July 15, 1928, in Beacon, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Marie (Groenendyk) Den Burger. She attended Knoxville High School and was a baton majorette. She also enjoyed summer church camps during her childhood and during one church camp she sang backup vocals for Billy Graham.
After high school she lived all her life in Knoxville. Jenella was a homemaker and worked for a short time at Rolscreen in Pella. For 25 years she worked at Collins Hospital as a nurse’s aide.
On October 19, 1949 at the Christian Church in Knoxville Jenella and Harold Ray Bailey were united in marriage. They shared over 20 years of marriage together and were blessed with four children; Priscilla, Donald, Julie and Jeff.
Jenella was always very proud of her Dutch heritage and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Knoxville.
Jenella passed away Friday evening, June 1, 2012, at the Griffin Nursing Home of Knoxville. She was 83 years of age, 10 months and 17 days.
She is survived by four children: Priscilla Bishop and husband Roger, Donald Bailey and wife Betty, Julie Petersen and husband Jim and Jeff Bailey and wife Peggy all of Knoxville; eight grandchildren Melodie Bishop, Angela Vande Kamp and husband Troy, Brian Bishop and wife Katie, Justin Petersen, Jacob Petersen, Joshua Petersen, Jenny Petersen and Jamie Bailey; and three great grandchildren Austin Bishop, Ben Vande Kamp and Bailey Vande Kamp. Jenella is also survived by her sister Anna Mae Vande Kamp and husband Ed of Knoxville and one sister-in-law Mary Louise Den Burger of Pleasantville.
Jenella was preceded in death by her parents Bert and Marie and three brothers James in infancy, Pete and Paul Den Burger.
Visitation for Jenella will be held from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville with Jenella’s family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday June 6th also at the Winfield Funeral Home with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Burial will follow services at the Sand Ridge Cemetery near Tracy.
Memorials have been established to the Knoxville Fire and Rescue Department or Knoxville Hospice of Central Iowa.
