Mary Jane Wells, age 96, of Lovilia, died Sunday March 27, 2011, at the Monroe Care Center in Albia.
Mary was born on September 7, 1914, in Truax, Iowa to Elmer and Elizabeth (Amsberry) Slay. Mary was raised in Truax for a short time before her family moved to Hamilton. She was a graduate of Lovilia High School, class of 1932. She was the oldest living Lovilia High School graduate.
In 1936 Mary married Wm. Keith Wells in Lancaster, MO. They were blessed with 57 years of marriage and two children Kae and Jimmie. Keith died in 1993.
Mary raised her family and had worked at Amsberry Grocery, Tierney’s Restaurant, and the Lovilia Dairy Crème. She was known for her wall papering and a great cook, especially beef and noodles.
Mary is survived by her children Kae Morgan and Jimmie (Marlene) Wells all of Lovilia; five grandchildren Julie (Jeff) Trinkle, Tom (Teri) Morgan, Bill (Teresa) Morgan, Roger (Connie) Wells and Jill (Terry) Braun. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Jessica (Jeff) Caudill, Joe (Natalie) Trinkle, Holly, Ashley, Brittany and Katelyn Morgan, Hailey Groenendyk, Zade Groenendyk, Beth, Whittney, and Taylor Morgan, Alissa VanKlootwyk, and Heath VanKlootwyk, Tyler and Kyle Wells, and Hannah Braun; three great- great grandchildren Jade and Janelle Caudill, and McKennah Morgan; and many family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son in law Lyle Morgan; six brothers Paul, Harold, Charles, Leroy, Joseph, and Kenneth Slay; and two sisters Carrie Hoyt and Thelma Krile; and one great grandson Jeremy Trinkle.
A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia. After services Mary’s family will gather at the Lovilia Community Building for refreshments and cookies. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Union Chapel Cemetery in Monroe County.
Visitation will be held from 6:00P.M., until 8:00P.M. Monday, March 28, 2011, at the Winfield Funeral Home with Mary’s family present.
A memorial has been established to the Lovilia Community Building, Lovilia United Methodist Church, or to the Monroe Care Center.
