|Winnie Joan “Alice” Dunkin was born on June 20, 1926 in Harvey, Iowa to Ernest Everett and Inez (Brodess) Larew. Alice was raised and lived in Harvey. She played high school basketball and graduated from Harvey High School.
On November 7, 1959 at the Bridal Cave in Cameron, Missouri Alice and Richard Vern Dunkin were married. They shared 44 years of marriage before Dick died on May 15, 2004.
Alice loved and cared for her family. She worked at the Pella Regional Hospital before working for over 15 years with the Central Iowa Foundation for Alcoholism and drug abuse as a secretary.
She lived most of her life in Harvey, Iowa. In 2005 Alice moved to Park Lane Assisted Living, and in the most recent years lived at West Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville.
Alice passed away at the West Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville, Iowa on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the age of 84 years, seven months, and 21 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dick; one granddaughter in infancy Kory Dunkin; and two sisters Maxine Bennet and Margery Six.
Alice is survived by her children Richard J. Dunkin and Jenny Halterman of Birmingham, Al, Wenda “Wendy” (Gary) Comer of Knoxville, Chris (Brenda) Dunkin of Harvey, and Dennis Dunkin of Knoxville; four step children Bernice Gibbs, Cleo Dunkin, Marsha Teal, and David Dunkin. Alice is also survived by seven grandchildren Justin (Amanda) Comer, Joshua Comer, Chelsie (Dan) Stroupe, Christoher Dunkin, Matthew Dunkin, Ty Dunkin, and Tanner Dunkin.
