John Heuer, Leonard, ND, died Thursday, September 24, 2009 at ManorCare Health Services.
John Herman Heuer was born September 29, 1925 at Fargo, ND to Helmuth and Adella (Dittmer) Heuer. He grew up and graduated from Leonard High School in 1943. He served with the US Air Corps in WWII from January 1944 to October 1945. On February 14, 1952 he married Avis Thingstad. After his service and during his marriage he farmed in the Leonard area from 1945-1988. They retired to the town of Leonard.
John was a 4-H Leader, trustee and elder at Bethel Moravian Church, past president of Democrat 22 district, president of the Angus Association of North Dakota, and president of Red River Harness Club. He liked to hunt and fish. In the early 1990’s, he crossed North Dakota by horse and carriage.
He is survived by his wife Avis, Leonard, ND; two sons, Dwight (Loretta), Fargo, ND, Craig (Amy), Bismarck, ND; one daughter, Barbara (William) Bailey, Cheyenne, WY; one brother, Donald Heuer, Fargo, ND; three sisters, Ethel Backstrom, Minneapolis, MN, Eileen Flemino, Edina, MN, Orpha Benshoof, Mesa, AZ; and six grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
