| Mary Louise (Grant) Cornelius Christy, age 89, of Lyons, & formerly of Bloomfield & Switz City, passed away at 1:35 A.M. Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Lyons Health & Living Center in Lyons. She was born June 29, 1923, in Daviess County, the daughter of James & Myrtle Jane (Shadd) Grant.
Mary was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church. She worked during WW II making parachutes, was a cook at Switz City School, & retired as a teacher’s aide. She married Oscar Ray “Chris ” Cornelius April 2, 1943, & Arthur “Bounce” Christy, Oct. 8, 1971. Mary was a loving mother & grandmother & will always be remembered for her love of gardening & her rose gardens. Survivors include a daughter, Judy (Cornelius) (Marlin) Baker of Linton, a son, Steven (Diana) Cornelius of Switz City, five grandchildren, Jim (Mary) Baker of Linton, Brad (Deena) Baker of Linton, Chris (Linda) Cornelius of Switz City, Jared (Krista) Cornelius of Jasonville, & Stephanie (Dave) Watson of Worthington, fifteen great-grandchildren, & three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray, in 1969, her husband, Arthur, in 1999, brothers, Ray & David Grant, & a sister, Mabel (Grant) Doades, by whom Mary was raised. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 A.M. Friday, July 20, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, Rev. Jim Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at the Plainville Cemetery.
