| | | Donald W. “Buck” Newsom, age 87, of Linton, passed away at 11:25 P.M. Monday, May 28, 2012, at the Cobblestone Crossings Health Care Campus in Terre Haute. He was born March 6, 1925, in Switz City, the son of Ralph & Leo (Stump) Newsom.
He retired from the Indiana State Highway Dept. where he worked as a heavy equipment operator. He also raised registered black Simmental cattle for several years. He was a member of the First Christian Church & Moose Lodge, both of Linton, & was an Army veteran of WW II.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine (Johnson) Newsom, to whom he was married Aug. 3, 1974, a son, Kerry (Jane) Newsom of Jasper, a daughter, Trisha (Carl) Lohkamp of Scotland, a step-son, Donald (Rhonda) Eyler of Terre Haute, two-step-daughters, Brenda (Mike) Combs of Bloomfield & Sheila (Kenneth) Waggner of Amo, a brother, Orval (Sarah) Newsom of Jasonville, fourteen grandchildren, & nineteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lucille Barret & Eileen McHenry, and a brother, Ralph Junior Newsom.
A funeral service will be conducted at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 11 A.M. Fri., June 1, Archie Ellett officiating. Burial will follow at Worthington Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5-8 P.M. Thurs. & at 10 A.M. Fri. until the hour of the service.
Memorial donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation through the funeral home.
