Virginia Evelyn Campbell, age 83, of Linton, died Saturday evening, February 24, 2007, at the IU Medical Center in Indianapolis. She was born in Tippecanoe County on July 26, 1923, the daughter of James & Emma Elizabeth (Adkins) Deckard. She worked at Crane During WWII, and later at Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis as a payroll clerk for seventeen years. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxilary in Linton.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Thomas and husband Danny of Linton, a son-in-law, Don Chalfant of Smithville, TN, a brother, Don Deckard of Lebanon, four sisters, Geneva Albright of Lafayette, Grace Fancher of Indianapolis, Helen Blair of Dunedin, FL, & Betty Gholson of Ajo, AZ, two half sisters, two granddaughters, Dana Thomas of Linton, & Dawn Christian of Rock Island, TN, two grandsons, Douglas Thomas of Linton, & Donny Paul Chalfant of Smithville, TN, and two great-grandsons, A.K. Chalfant & Lou Christian.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Lee Campbell on Aug. 20, 1997, a daughter, Marilyn Kay Chalfant in March, 2005, three brothers, Charles "Bud", James & George Deckard, two sisters, Emma June Mekos & Shirley McCullough, and her parents.
Funeral Service will be held at the Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 1, 2007, Rev. Mike Roth officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., and on Thursday from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
