Bert Jay “B.J.” Bredeweg, age 72 of rural Lyons, entered into eternal life at 11:10 P.M. Saturday, July 23, 2005, at his residence, after a seven year battle with cancer. He was born in Linton on June 22, 1933, the son of Herbert A. & Frances (Brookshire) Bredeweg.
He attended Black Creek Elementary & Linton-Stockton High School.
He was Baptized and Confirmed at the Linton Saron United Church of Christ where he had served as deacon, trustee & elder, and had been a member of the Young Adult Fellowship Group.
He had served as a military policeman in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.
He was a life-long Greene County grain & live stock farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Gail (Thornton) Bredeweg of rural Lyons, whom he married March 4, 1956, two daughters, Deborah (Mike) Brinker of Columbus & Sarah (Dale) Keitel of Rosedale, two sons, Thomas (Linda) Bredeweg & James (Cami) Bredeweg, both of Lyons, a sister, Marie Huber of Linton, a brother, Philip Bredeweg of Linton, eleven grandchildren, Zachary, Jillmarie, & B.J. Brinker, all of Columbus, Danielle, Megan, & Morgan Bredeweg, all of Lyons, Nicole Keitel of South Carolina, Natalie, Nadine, & Haley Keitel, all of Rosedale, & Mieke Vanderheijden of Belgium, one great-grandson, Cameron Brinker of Columbus, ten nieces, five nephew, & numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jennie Pearl Andis.
Funeral Service will be held at the Saron United Church of Christ in Linton at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 27, 2005, with Reverend Mike Roth officiating. Burial will follow at the Memory Hill Cemetery in Linton.
A visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
Memorials can be made to the Greene County Hospice or the Saron United Church of Christ through the funeral home.
