William “Bill” North Butler, age 55, of Linton, passed away at 7:30 A.M. Thurs., Feb. 26, 2009, at his residence in Linton. He was born April 21, 1953, in Marion, the son of John Robert & Marjorie (North) Butler.
He was employed at Work One as a Community Employment Specialist. He was a graduate of Ball State University, with a degree in Business, was a member of the Linton First United Methodist Church, where he served on many boards & was a member of the Chancel Choir & the Bell Choir, & was a member of the Linton Civitan, where he served as president two times. He served on the Board of Directors at Roosevelt Mission & was president & on the Board of Directors of PACE. He served as part-time pastor at Scotland United Methodist Church, following a four church charge at the Newberry, Prairie Chapel, Scotland & Mt. Nebo Churches. He worked a big part of his life at his family’s business, Butler Music Store, until his move to Linton in Jan. 1989. He managed the Linton Movie Theater for two years. Bill was very active with the Bell Ringing, Toys for Tots, & Clothe a Child projects.
Survivors include his mother, Marjorie Paullin of Marion, his wife, Martha J. (Foulke) Butler, to whom he was married June 6, 1976, a son, Michael (Jen) Butler of Brazil, a daughter, Sarah (Michael Bitler) Butler of New Whiteland, an identical twin brother, Bob (Nancy) Butler of Indianapolis, two other brothers, Jack (Ann) Butler of Marion & David Butler of Brattleboro, Vermont, two sisters, Mary (Mike) Kirby of Marion & Leslie (Dennis) Lydick of Manassas, Virginia, two step-brothers, Richard (Margaret) Paullin of Chicago & Mark (Catherine) Paullin of Colorado, & a granddaughter, Olivia.
He was preceded in death by his father, a sister, Sally Hurd, & his step-father, Jim Paullin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Mon., March 2, at the Linton First United Methodist Church, Nyle Riegle officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. Sun. at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel & after 10 A.M. Mon. at the church.
