Ina Pearl Barnes, age 93, of Bloomington, passed away on Sun., Jan. 11, 2009, at Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington. She was born March 9, 1915, in Cleaton, KY, the daughter of William & Mary Ellen (Rose) Roll & moved with her parents to Linton when she was three years old. In 1934, she married Bert Joseph (B.J.) Barnes, a mathematics teacher & beloved band director for Linton-Stockton High School. After high school graduation, she took further musical training at the University of Michigan while her husband was in music school there.
She & her husband had two children, a son & a daughter. Widowed in 1949, she went to work for the Greene County Courthouse in Bloomfield and then for Citizens National Bank of Linton for thirty years until her retirement.
She served on the Board of Directors at the Glenburn Home in Linton (1981-1984), had been a member of the National Association of Women in Banking, & the Business & Professional Women’s Association. She also had been an active member of Triad, a musical organization founded by Nell Hamilton, & the Tri Kappa Sorority. She served as choir director at Linton First Baptist Church for ten years before becoming director of choirs at Linton First United Methodist Church. She held this position for twenty-five years. She was named Ms. Citizen of 1978 by the Linton Ladies Civitan Club.
She moved to Bloomington in 1984 and became a member of First United Methodist Church, serving on various committees within the church. She was a lay delegate to the south Indiana Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church for several years. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women, served with the Salvation Army Auxiliary, and, for many years, attended International Bible Study Fellowship.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Barnes of Bloomington, her son, Bill Barnes (Charlotte) of Matthews, NC, a granddaughter, Mary Guercio (Brian) of Franklin, NC, & three great grandsons, Spencer Whitlow of Charlotte, NC, & Trevor Moretz & Salvatore Guercio of Franklin, NC. She is also survived by one niece, Jane Curtis, & five nephews, Will, Mark, Nick, Eric, & Ed Roll. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, & a brother & sister, William Dean Roll & Margaret McKee.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 A.M. Fri., Jan. 16, in the sanctuary at Linton First United Methodist Church with Revs. James Gentry & W.T. Murphy officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 A.M. until 11 A.M. at the Welch Lounge at the church.
A second memorial service will be held at First United Methodist church in Bloomington on a date to be announced.

Box 936, Bloomington, IN 47402 (to the Charles Webb Endowment Fund, the United Methodist Women, or the Shalom Center), or to Habitat for Humanity.
