Kenneth F. Barnes, age 83, of Linton, passed away at 12:45 A.M. Fri., Sept. 26, 2008, at Glenburn Home in Linton. He was born July 3, 1925, in Seymour, the son of William Frank & Gladys L. (Klayclamp) Barnes.
He began his career with Goodyear Tire Company in Seymour & retired after 27 ½ years, moving to Linton in 1957. He later purchased Wolfes City Service & retired in 2000 from there. He also co-owned tire shops in Loogootee & Washington. He was a longtime member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Linton, a thirty year member of the Greene County Sheriffs Merit Board, where he was currently serving as president, a charter member of the Linton Civitan Club, & was an avid golfer & enjoyed flying. He was a Marine veteran of WW II.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva (Hobbs) Barnes, to whom he was married Sept. 15, 1945, four sons, Kenton Barnes, & his fiancé, Sandra Hasler, Ron (Sue) Barnes, David (Sandra) Barnes, & Rennis Barnes, all of Linton, a daughter, Janice (Roger) Bridges of Linton, two sisters, Ruth Spieker & Rosalie Bohall, both of Seymour, nine grandchildren, Tim, Andy, Lori, Brandee, Shane, Whitney, Rick, Joshua, & Kylee, & fifteen great-grandchildren, Megan, Courtney, Kaleb, Madisyn, Kelsea, Skylar, J. T., Corianne, William, Austin, Shayna, Zaden, Ericka, Dalton, & Haylee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons, Eric Bridges & Cory Barnes,
a brother, Howard Barnes, a sister, Katherine Phillips, two infant brothers, & an infant sister.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wed., Oct. 1, 2008 at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel, Pastor Dan Delaney officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton. The Linton American Legion will conduct military graveside rites.
