| | | William Bill Thomas Self, age 91 died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital -Union County Hospital in New Albany. He was born January 4, 1921 in Pontotoc county to the late Hubert Daniel Self and Josie Sidney Gordon Self. He was a Army veteran having served during World War II. He was a farmer, and a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ at Pinedale. He enjoyed picking the guitar, and singing at the court house square. He loved life, singing and music.
His services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at United Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Raymond Bishop and Rev. James Holmes officiating. Burial will be in the Glenfield Memorial Park.
He is survived by one daughter Vivian Tackett (Gary) of Water Valley, six sons Jerry Self (Shirley) of Water Valley, Troy Self (Melissa) of Water Valley, Billy Self (Donna) of Byhalia, George Self (Sue) of Batesville, Bradley Self (Tammy) of Thaxton, and David Self (Cindy) of New Albany, two sisters Mary Graham and Lilly Ashworth of both of Pontotoc, two brothers Laron Self of Algoma and Lamar Self of Alabama, twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Geneva Williams Self, one son James Thomas Self, and two brothers Aaron Self and Vardie Self.
Pallbearers will be Jeffery Holmes, B.J. Self, Kevin Self , Michael Self , Keith Self, Mike Self, Kenny Self, John Mask, Jason Taylor, and Blake Self. The American Legion Post # 72 will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In honor of his service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the United States Army Flag during his visitation and his service.
