Margaret M. Cafferty | | | | | Kill Devil Hills, NC
Matriarch of the Cafferty family, passed on, went to join her friends and family in heaven on Wednesday, November 4, 2009.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Thomas A. Cafferty, her mother and father Elizabeth and David McClunn, her brother Rt. Reverend Monsignor Justin McClunn, and her Daughter Deborah Cafferty White.
She is survived by her sons Thomas D. Cafferty & Wife Debra of Great Falls, VA and Timothy M. Cafferty of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; her grandchildren Lauren and Stephanie Cafferty of Great Falls, VA, Justin, Connor, Mackenzie, Sinclaire and Laine Cafferty of Kitty Hawk, NC, Katherine, Margaret and Ashley White of Lynchburg, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Born and raised in Brooklyn New York, the grand-daughter of famed New York Senator Garth Cronin who was the largest bridge and tunnel contractor in New York in the early 1900’s, Marge came from the top society of New York. She graduated from Dumbarton College in Washington DC with a Masters Degree before making her way to the Outer Banks of North Carolina with her husband where she partnered with her Tom on many successful businesses including Kitty Hawk Realty and Rentals. After Tom’s passing in 1974 Marge became one of the first female company owners on the Outer Banks as she continued to grow the company to great success that has now spanned for more than 45 years.
She was an active member of the local Board of REALTORS and served on the organization’s board of directors for several years until her retirement. She also was active in the Dare County League of Women Voters, a noted patron of charitable causes, and one of the founding members of the Outer Banks Catholic Parish.
There will be a visitation at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, 500 Budleigh Street, Manteo on Sunday, November 8th from 6 - 8 PM with a wake service at 6:30 PM.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk, N.C. at 9 AM on Monday, November 9th with Rite of Christian Burial to follow at 3:00 p.m.at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor.
