|Arnold Ford Gregory passed away August 1, 2012 surrounded by family and friends. Ford, an only child, was born April 7, 1936 at Gregory, Braxton Co, WV to Walter Martin and Myrtle Fisher Gregory. Ford was the 6th greatgrandson of “Colonel” Isaac Gregory. He grew up in Braxton Co and lived most of his life there. In 1959, he joined the US Army serving in the Signal Corps in Korea, Laos, and Cambodia. After military service, Ford worked as lineman for the phone company, as a truck driver, and in the timber industry. At one time he owned his own garage, ran a small engine repair shop and later worked for West Fork Lumber and DN’R Timber. In 1966, he married Nettie Robinson and they built a home from lumber sawed at his mill.
He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, and boating, but was most passionate about sharing the sport of fishing with youngsters. He spent his retirement years fishing in tournaments with his good friends and wife: WV Bass Federation, Fishers of Men, Buddy Trail, and local open tournaments in his favorite waters of Burnsville, Sutton, Stone Coal, and Stonewall Jackson. Ford also enjoyed rebuilding old cars, racing stock cars and go-carts, crafting fishing lures, and he could design and build about anything out of wood or metal.
He is survived by his loving wife Nettie; son Kevin and wife Gabby; and daughter Lisa and husband Bernard Rollins; grandchildren Melissa and Adeline Gregory, and Mariah and Jackson Rollins. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday, August 3, 2012 at the Alkire Funeral Chapel in Ireland, where services will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 4, 2012 with Pastor Lonnie Ramsey and Pastor Dwayne Brown officiating. Burial will follow at the Falls Mill Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Ireland Community Building after the service.
The Lewis County Honor Guard will provide Military Funeral Honors.
