Dencil J. Strader, Sr. age 95 of Crawford, the Heaston Community passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was born October 25, 1912 at Knawls Creek the son of the late Granville Jackson and Maude Mae Mick Strader. He was preceded in death by his first wife Nellie Dove Simmons Strader and by his second wife Rose “Terrie” Ferran Jeskie Strader.
He is survived by 4 sons Dencil J. Strader, Jr. and wife Dawn of Dayton Texas, Frank L. Jeskie of Fort Myers, FL, Robert W. Jeskie of Covington, LA and Gary A. Jeskie of Wichita, KS, 5 daughters Arlene Gregory and husband Harley of Suffield, Ohio, Aleta Detamore and husband Charles of Berlin, WV, Vonda Thomason of French Creek, Avis Hull and husband Eugene of Winfield, WV, Jean Walton and husband Rex of Buckhannon, 24 grandchildren, 29 great grand-children, 1 great great grandson and a special friend Bill Wilson.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Sharon Cornell and by 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
Mr. Strader was a life time member of the Heaston United Methodist Church and attended the Straight Fork United Methodist Church. He was a self educated man,
a farmer, timber man and a 4-H leader, dozer operator, a supervisor and board member of the Tygart Valley Soil Conservation District. He has been a member of the following--- WV State Gypsy Moth Committee, the Wes-Mon-Ty Resource Conservation and Development Board, the Farm Bureau, and WV Cattlemen’s Association. Throughout his life he has been awarded many honors in the County, State and National levels in the Agricultural and Forestry Industry. He was also honored with the national “Take Pride in American” Award and was inducted into the State of WV Agricultural and Forestry Hall of Fame.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 pm Wednesday, December 12, 2007at the Funeral Chapel and services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the Heaston United Methodist Church with Dr. Charles Godwin officiating and burial to follow in the Heaston Cemetery.
