| | | McMILLAN, Raymond (Ray) Chester (Mac), age 93, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2009, at Hospice of Dayton. A long-time resident of Dayton, Ohio, Ray was born on June 24, 1915 in Lancaster, Minnesota, the youngest son of Robert Chichester and Nellie Grant (Orme) McMillan. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Clara Virginia (Rathfon) McMillan; five sisters: Violette Erickson, Betty McMillan, Lulu Schusler, Doris Grad, and Bonnie Binder; and two brothers: William and Charles. Ray is survived by his daughter, Virginia A. McMillan, of Beavercreek; one sister, Virginia (McMillan) Moore, of Burlington, NC; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Mac retired in January 1960 as a Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service. His career as a flight engineer included duty in Europe, the Pacific, and the U.S. during and after World War II, and during the Korean War. Mac also retired in August 1980 from the U.S. Postal Service after 20 years as a letter carrier. In retirement, Ray volunteered for numerous community organizations, including Kettering Hospital, the Kettering Police Department, Habitat for Humanity, and his church. Ray was an active member of Church of the Cross United Methodist for almost 50 years, serving as an usher, as a Trustee, and lending a hand whenever one was needed. He will be remembered as a devoted father, brother, uncle, and friend. Funeral service 10:00 AM Thursday, March 26, 2009 at the funeral home, with Rev. John C. Whitaker officiating. Interment Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
