| | | Highland - Mary Boland, 85, a lifelong area resident, died Friday, October 9, 2009 at Vassar Bros. Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
Most recently, Mary worked at IBM in Poughkeepsie until her retirement. Along with her daughter, Carol, she also formerly owned and operated the Tan Your Hide beauty salon in Pleasant Valley.
Formerly of Pleasant Valley, she has resided for the last twelve years in Highland.
Born in New Paltz on March 26, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Henrietta Benjamin Boland. She was a graduate of the former Mother Cabrini School in Highland.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Van Steenburgh.
Survivors include her son, Joseph Van Steenburgh and wife, Nancy, of Hyde Park; son, Frank Van Steenburgh and wife, Bunny, of Tennessee; daughter, Carol Eng and companion, Bob Turner, of Highland; daughter, Charlene Avello and husband, Anthony, of Poughkeepsie; son, Stanley Van Steenburgh and wife, Shirley, of Hyde Park; daughter, Dorothy Nichol of Highland; sixty grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother, John Boland; sisters, Frances Baker and Helen Marquette; and several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Mary's wishes, cremation has taken place.
Memorial calling hours will be from 6 to 8 Pm, Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Inurnment of her ashes will take place at the convenience of the family.
