Poughkeepsie - Amelia 'Minnie' Rinaldi, 88, a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at home.
Mrs. Rinaldi was a homemaker, and communicant of St. Peter's Church in Hyde Park.
Born in Poughkeepsie on August 17, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Boleslaw and Adela V. Maks Wojtecki. She attended Poughkeepsie schools.
On June 8, 1947 in St. Joseph's Church, Poughkeepsie, she married Dominic 'Tommy' Rinaldi. Her husband predeceased her on November 7, 2002.
From the family: The world we once knew has been diminished by the passing of our beloved Amelia ‘Minnie’ Rinaldi. A true Christian soul who was loved by everyone she met. She was a woman who was very easy to love because of her wonderful kindness, generosity and grace. More than that, her strength held us all together. Her wonderful sense of humor and unforgettable laughter will remain with us for eternity. After the loss of the love of her life, Tommy Rinaldi, she soldiered on, never burdening her family with her grief. She was truly a remarkable woman in every sense of the word. She stood amongst us as a woman of great dignity and elegance. Her simple passions were going to Atlantic City to play the slots with her best friend and sister, Jo DeMichiel, and the New York Yankees. She always reminded us that she had been a Yankee fan from the days of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. You knew if a Yankee game was on, she would be glued to her chair watching. More importantly, coming from a family of nine children, her family was the center of her life. She had unconditional love for her children and devotion beyond measure to her grandchildren.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Penny Rinaldi of Poughkeepsie; four daughters and sons-in-law, Louise Baranick of Pleasant Valley, Donna and Jeff Philipbar of Salt Point, Liz and Frank Giordano of Highland, and Christine Rinaldi of Poughkeepsie; four grandchildren, Anthony, Frankie, Angelica, and Amelia Giordano; sister, Josephine DeMichiel; sister and brother-in-law, Fefa and Robert Kohout; brother and sister-in-law, Chet and Joan Wojtecki; brother, Stanley Wojtecki; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Edward Wojtecki; and three sisters, Gladys Pinello, Helena Steel, and Jean Schultz.
There are no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am, Friday, September 18, 2009 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Poughkeepsie. Fr. Peter Vianney will be officiating.
Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142, or the Fairview Volunteer Fire Dept., 258 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
