HYDE PARK Helene R. Kuhn, 85, a Hyde Park resident for most of her life, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. Mrs. Kuhn, affectionately known as "Sis" was a devoted mother of six, grandmother of nine and a friend to all. Mrs. Kuhn was a homemaker, taking wonderful care of her own children, as well as caring for many other children. She was an incredible baker and loved to cook. She loved helping anyone in need. She drove neighbors and relatives to church every week. She accepted her ailing husband's cousin and aunt into their home and tirelessly took care of them for many years until their deaths. Helene always welcomed friends and family in her kitchen where she shared her humor and country wisdom and charm. She was a member of Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park since 1958. Born Oct. 11, 1923 in East Albany, Vermont, she was the daughter of John Morley and Agnes Kilgallen Morley. On May 7, 1949, she married John V. Britt, who died in 1955. On Feb. 7, 1958, she married John C. Kuhn, who predeceased her on Aug. 1, 1994. Also surviving are two daughters, Kathleen Walsh and her husband, John of Lagrangeville and Eileen Mason and her husband, Rick of Castleton; four sons, Terrence F. Kuhn and his wife, Stefanie of Brooklyn; John F. Kuhn and his wife, Donna of Huntington, L.I.; Michael Britt of Hyde Park; and John Patrick Britt of Middletown. She was also the loving grandmother of Kevin, Shannon and Katelyn Walsh, Jennifer Kuhn, Kirsten and Ryan Kuhn, Shawn and Heather Mason and Candace Britt. She was also survived by a sister, Teresa Bellavance of Vermont. She was predeceased by her brother, Fran Morley and three sisters, Ceil Ingalls, Grace Locke and Madaline Britt. As per her request, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 28, at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie. Arrangements under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
