VERO BEACH, FL Mary Erts Sorrentino, 63, formerly of Hyde Park, died Aug. 13, 2009 at home after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Mary was born March 28, 1946 in Hyde Park and was the daughter of the late Margaret Dolan Erts and Thomas Q. Erts of Hyde Park. A graduate of Roosevelt High School Class of 1964, Mary received her license in Cosmetology from Richard the First Beauty School and worked at New Image Beauty Salon in Hyde Park for many years. While in Florida, Mary was employed by Macy's/Burdines and was also a hostess at Cracker Barrel Restaurant. Survivors include her daughter, Krista Sorrentino of New York City; her brother, Thomas F. Erts and his wife, Ginny of Georgia; sister, Carol Bartlett and her husband, Kenny of Hyde Park; sister, Nancy Erts, OP, Dominican Sister of Hope, Ossining, NY; brother, Michael W. Erts and his wife, Donna of Poughkeepsie; sister, Kathleen Barton of Hyde Park; her life partner of 12 years, Mace Jones of Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mary's favorite hobby was cooking for her family and friends. Mary was also a woman who offered loving hospitality to everyone, so we, her immediate family, want to publicly thank the medical personnel and Hospice caregivers of Indian River County, extended family and friends who offered Mary compassionate holistic support throughout her experience of terminal illness. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 20, at Sweet's Funeral Home Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 21, at St. Peter's Our Lady of Rosary Chapel, Hudson View Dr., Poughkeepsie. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, 1076 Violet Ave., Hyde Park. To send condolences or for directions, please visit www.sweetsfuneralhome.com.
