| | | Hyde Park - Edward A. Bator, a lifelong area resident, died Monday, August 3, 2009 at Vassar Bros. Medical Center.
Mr. Bator was a Practical Nurse at the Hudson River Psychiatric Center for many years until his retirement. After retiring from the Psychiatric Center, he worked at the Young Morse Historic Site in Poughkeepsie.
A forty-four year resident of Hyde Park and previously of Poughkeepsie, Edward was a member of American Legion Post # 37 in Poughkeepsie, AARP, and the AFSCME CSEA Retiree Program Chapter 1000.
He enjoyed horse racing, and loved his dogs, especially his current dog, Mandy.
Mr. Bator proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. Among his many awards, he received two Bronze Service Stars, the American Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a communicant of St. Peter's Church, Hyde Park.
Born in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late Samuel and Albina Opitz Bator.
On December 21, 1958 in Park Ridge, NJ, he married Marie Bromm. Mrs. Bator survives at home.
His children and grandchildren meant a great deal to him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Patricia 'Trish' Bator of Bedford Hills, NY, and Steven Bator and wife, Cathy, of Meridian, MS; four grandchildren, Danielle, Rebecca, Andrew, and Kelly Bator, all of Meridian, MS; a sister, Ann Bator of Poughkeepsie; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Frank Bator; and four sisters, Elizabeth and Helen Bator, and Mary and Amelia Wilcenski.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 pm, Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Thursday, August 6th, at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish, Hudson View Dr., Poughkeepsie. Fr. Armand Padula will be officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
