Hyde Park - Jean Santmire Nedved, 64, of Hyde Park, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
A Hyde Park native, Jean had moved back to her hometown in 2005 after having lived in Washington, D.C., Connecticut, Minnesota, Iowa, and Texas.
She was a 1963 graduate of F.D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, and went on to receive her Associates Degree from Marjorie Webster Junior College in Washington, D.C.
Jean used her degree in retailing as an Assistant Buyer for Woodrow and Lothrop in Washington, D.C. After having two children, she held various retail supervisory positions in Texas. Jean also worked as a nurses' assistant in nursing homes in Iowa and Texas.
Jean loved gardening, enjoyed cooking, and had a tremendous talent for home decorating.
Born in Poughkeepsie on June 19, 1945, she was the daughter of Floyd and Verna Scism Santmire. Her father predeceased her, and her mother survives at the Baptist Home in Rhinebeck.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, Sean Corrigan of Austin, TX, and Matt Corrigan of Dallas, TX; two brothers, Glenn Santmire and wife, Patty, of Alpharetta, GA, and Richard Santmire and Sharon O'Brien of Rhinebeck; one sister, Barbara Vanden Broek and husband, Donald, of Hyde Park; nieces and nephews, Amy, Sarah, and Chris Vanden Broek, and Daphne, Courtney, Tyler, and Elizabeth Santmire; and good friend, Leif Linenbroker of Hyde Park.
In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her former husband, Robert Corrigan.
There are no calling hours.
In keeping with Jean's wishes, cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will take place at 11 am on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the Hyde Park United Methodist Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VA HV HCS, (for patient needs), and send to VA HV HCS, Castle Point Campus, Castle, Point, NY 12511,or, the Hyde Park Food Pantry, P.O Box 28, Staatsburg, NY 12580.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet’s Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
