| | | Hyde Park - Alfred H. Isaacson Jr., 87, a sixty-two year Hyde Park resident previously of Hudson, NY, died Monday, July 20, 2009 at home.
He came to Hyde Park in 1947 where he began his teaching career as an Industrial Arts teacher. In his later years, he was Assistant Principal and Principal at F.D. Roosevelt High School until his retirement in June 1977. He truly loved his students and the Hyde Park community.
Mr. Isaacson was a member of The Hyde Park United Methodist Church for over sixty years, a member of Shekomeko Lodge # 458 F& A M in Pleasant Valley for fifty-four years, and was also active with Hyde Park Meals on Wheels for thirty-two years.
Al proudly served in the 54th Troop Carrier Squadron of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, and was a recipient of the Pacific Ribbon and Medal, the American Theater Ribbon and Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal.
Born in Hudson on January 15, 1922, he was the son of the late Alfred H. Isaacson Sr. and Lillian M. Coon.
He graduated from Hudson High School, received his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Oswego, and continued his education earning a Master's Degree from Columbia University.
On September 23, 1944 in Elizabeth, NJ, he married Mary Boldizar. Mrs. Isaacson survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, June VanZandt and husband, Peter, and Mary E. Jones, all of Hyde Park; a son, Douglas Isaacson and wife, Julie, of Salt Point; six grandchildren, Brent VanZandt and wife, Theresa, and their children, Katlynn, Lindsey, and Brooke, of Wappingers Falls, Matthew VanZandt of Red Hook, Kory VanZandt and wife, Liz, and their children, Kylie and Logan, of Highland, Melissa Lasher and husband, Herbie, and their children, Allison and Chad, of Poughkeepsie, Christy Jacobs and husband, Dave, of Mt. Laurel, NJ, and Shondra Jones, and son, Zavion, of Castleton, NY; two brothers, Bob Isaacson and wife, Joan, of Maine, Richard Isaacson and wife, Reina, of Bremerton, WA; two sisters, Doris Smith and husband, Chet, of Sherbourne, NY, and Ruth Murphy of Poughkeepsie; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Shekomeko Masonic Lodge will conduct services at 7 pm during the calling hours.
A Celebration of Al’s life will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, July 24th at the Hyde Park United Methodist Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hyde Park United Methodist Church or Hyde Park Meals on Wheels; both are located at 1 Church St., Hyde Park, NY 12538.
