Poughkeepsie - Jo Anne B. Ward, 73, a local resident since 1970 and previously of Brooklyn, died Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Vassar Bros. Medical Center.
Ms. Ward was a receptionist at IBM in Poughkeepsie. Prior to that, she worked in the Business Office at St. Francis Hospital. While living in Brooklyn, she enjoyed one of her favorite jobs over the years; being a receptionist / secretary at the advertising firm of Funt and Ettinger. She was also a nurse at Maimonides Medical Center.
She was a member of the local Republican Party.
Jo Anne delved into life and had a passion for shopping, travel (especially on cruises), crafts, taking trips to area casinos, and all things Brooklyn. But even with all that, she always had time for her friends and had the most outrageous sense of humor.
Born in Brooklyn on November 27, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice Haddad Krikorian. She was a graduate of Dutchess Community College.
She is survived by a daughter, Christine Ward of Poughkeepsie; several cousins, including Dolores Betros of Hyde Park, and her daughter, Kim Betros and husband, Robert Millar, of Red Hook; and numerous friends.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 pm, Monday, July 20, 2009 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Funeral services will be at 11 am, Tuesday, July 21st at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
