Hyde Park - John F. Quinn, 89, a twenty year Hyde Park resident and previously of the Bronx, died Monday, June 29, 2009 at Vassar Bros. Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
John was an electrician and maintenance person with the Methodist Home in Riverdale, NY until his retirement.
He attended lunch daily at the Hyde Park United Methodist Church senior center, and enjoyed going on trips with the Hyde Park AARP.
John also enjoyed photography especially taking pictures of his family and his different trips, his last being a recent trip to the 65th Anniversary of D-Day.
John proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and attended his 324th Infantry Regiment Assoc. reunion on an annual basis for over 30 years. He was a member of the Hyde Park American Legion Post # 1303, and the U. S. Army 44th Division Assoc.
A communicant of Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park, he was also a member of the church's Eucharistic Adoration Society.
Born in the Bronx on October 6, 1919, he was the son of the late John and Anne Mullaney Quinn.
He is survived by his sister, May Queenan of Nyack; niece, Sr. Anne Queenan of Riverdale; nephew, Michael Queenan and wife, Barbara, of Congers; niece, Kathleen Carroll and husband, Richard, of Hyde Park; nephew, Stephen Queenan and wife, Susan, of Poughquag; and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by family in Vancouver, British Columbia and Ireland.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Bro. Charles Quinn, OMI.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Thursday, July 2nd at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Fr. Michael Palazzo will be officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in the veterans' section of Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
