| | | Winter Park, FL - Edward Joseph 'Andy' Anderson, 73, a Winter Park resident and former longtime Hyde Park resident, died Saturday, June 20, 2009 at home.
Mr. Anderson was a New York State Trooper for 24 years; retiring in 1980. He was also a former Chief of Police in Hyde Park, and security officer at Vassar College.
Andy was a charter member of the Hyde Park Knights of Columbus Council #6111, where he served terms as Grand Night and Financial Secretary. He was a former Chairman of the Hudson Valley District Deputies, and member of the NY State Charitable and Benevolent Program of the Knights of Columbus. He was currently a member of Orlando, Florida Knights of Columbus Council #2112.
Mr. Anderson was a member of the NY State Police PBA, the Florida Assoc. of Retired Troopers, and former member of the Hotel Security Assoc. in Orlando.
Andy was a communicant of St. Margaret Mary Church in Winter Park and Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park.
Born in the Bronx on October 13, 1935, he was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Veronica Murphy Anderson. He graduated from St. Pius Elementary School and Cardinal Hayes High School, both in the Bronx.
On October 20, 1962 in St. Peter's Church, Poughkeepsie, he married Margaret Mary 'Peggy' Davis. Peggy predeceased him on December 17, 1981.
He is survived by a son, Eric Anderson and wife, Amy, of Orlando; daughter, Jeanne Underwood and husband, Ken, of Hyde Park; son, Kevin Anderson and wife, Elizabeth, of Unionville, Conn.; seven grandchildren, Ian and Kady Underwood, Patrick, Caitlin, Alexis, Aidan, and Collin Anderson; two sisters, Joan Vatter and husband, Frank, of Cornwall on Hudson, and Rose Konchan of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, George Anderson in 1962.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
The Knights of Columbus will conduct services at 7:30 pm during the visitation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Friday, June 26th at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
