| | | Hyde Park - Bryan R. Golnek Sr., 64, a lifelong Hyde Park resident, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
Mr. Golnek had a 35 year career with IBM. For the last 12 years, he proudly served as CEO of Golnek Management Group, Inc.
In Bryan’s younger years, he played basketball and softball in the IBM leagues, as well as racquetball and tennis with friends. He also liked to play golf, especially the trips to Myrtle Beach with his buddies. In the 70’s, Bryan coached his sons and others in CYO basketball and Hyde Park Little League. Around this time period, he also started a booster club to fund FD Roosevelt sports programs after they had been eliminated from the town budget.
At the time of his death, Bryan was serving his second term on the board at Hospice Inc. During his twelve years, he has served as a director, as well as an interim CEO for the agency.
Bryan and his wife of forty-five years, Margaret, were fortunate to have visited many countries over the years; however, it was Japan where he developed relationships that lasted long after his retirement. No matter how much he enjoyed his travels he always looked forward to returning to what he considered the most beautiful place on earth, the Hudson River Valley.
Bryan was a voracious reader and intellectually curious, which gave him an uncanny ability to relate to and communicate on the human condition. Many an acquaintance sought his advice and counsel.
His greatest joy was the love of family. A devoted husband and proud father who went on to become the world’s greatest Papa. No distance was too far for his grandchildren’s sporting events and extracurricular activities. His love and generosity knew no bounds when it came to his beloved grandchildren, Samantha and Bryan.
Born in Poughkeepsie on November 27, 1944, he was the son of the late Herman F. and Bertha Ryan Golnek.
He was a graduate of St. Mary's Grade School in Poughkeepsie, F.D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, and Dutchess Community College. He also attended Marist College.
On November 14, 1964 in St. Peter's Church, Poughkeepsie, he married Margaret Bowe. Mrs. Golnek survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Bryan R. Golnek Jr. and wife, Mary Jo, of Centreville, VA, and Peter T. Golnek and fiancée, Jackie Angelelli, both of Arlington, VA; two grandchildren, Samantha and Bryan J. Golnek; an adored uncle, Thomas J. Crantz of Florida and his wife Claire; a much loved cousin Margaret Crowley of Maryland, three aunts, Alma Golnek and Verda Raskowski, both of Kingston, and Ruth Glowenski of Florida; and many cousins.
