| | | Hyde Park - James E. Day Sr., 62, a longtime Hyde Park resident, died Thursday, June 11, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
Mr. Day served in the United States Air Force for twenty years; retiring in 1988.
Jim was a member of the American Legion, and he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working in his yard.
Born in Poughkeepsie on March 1, 1947, he was the son of the late Francis Lewis and Mildred Ruth Kozus Day. He was a graduate of Poughkeepsie Schools.
On August 28, 2001 in Hyde Park, he married Estrella T. Alama. Mrs. Day survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James E. Day Jr. of New Jersey; a daughter; two grandchildren; a brother, Larry Day of Hyde Park; three sisters, Marie of South Carolina, Helen of New Jersey, and Lorie of Highland; and several nieces, nephews, and aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Francis Day.
Calling hours will be from 10 am to 12 noon, Monday, June 15, 2009 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Funeral services will follow the visitation at 12 noon at the funeral home.
Burial with military honors will be in the veteran's section of Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
