| | | Hyde Park - Geraldine Patricia Biskup, 86, a longtime Hyde Park resident, died on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at home.
Before raising a family, Mrs. Biskup worked for the former D & H Railroad in Albany, NY.
A Hyde Park resident since 1953, she was previously from Watervliet, and was a graduate of Watervliet High School.
Geraldine was a founding member of the Roosevelt Engine Co. #3 Ladies Auxiliary in Hyde Park, and was an avid bowler in numerous ladies’ bowling leagues in Albany and Poughkeepsie. She was also a member of the 'Dirty Dozen Ladies Club' and an avid bingo player.
She was an active communicant of Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park.
Born in Watervliet on October 2, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Helen Morrissey Stratta.
On June 12, 1948 in St. Patrick's Church in Watervliet, she married William E. Biskup. Her husband, a Deacon for many years at Regina Coeli Church, predeceased her on July 8, 2006.
Mrs. Biskup was a very dedicated wife and mother to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Lanigan and husband, Bill, of Hyde Park; two sons, Bill Biskup and wife, Lydia, of Poughkeepsie, and Tom Biskup and wife, Kristin, of Hyde Park; six grandchildren, Kimberly Sottile and husband, David, of Poughkeepsie, Daniel Lanigan and wife, Sarah, of Mobile, AL, Timothy Lanigan of Washington, DC, Erin Biskup of Poughkeepsie, and Tommy and Colleen Biskup, both of Hyde Park; five great grandchildren, Clare and Caroline Sottile, both of Poughkeepsie, and Mollie, Aislinn, and Brendan Lanigan, all of Mobile, AL; two sisters, Mary Johnas of Albany, and Helen Cole and husband, Marty, of Latham; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Anna Wilson; brother, Jack Stratta, and sister, Frances Assini.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Pm, Friday, June 12, 2009 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Saturday, June 13th at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Msgr. William Collins and Rev. Michael Palazzo will be the celebrants.
Entombment will follow in the family crypt in Our Lady of The Holy Souls Mausoleum at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
