| | | Poughkeepsie - Joyce A. Kane, 74, a lifelong area resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital. She was supported and cared for by her family and friends throughout her courageous battle with cancer.
Most recently, Joyce worked for over twenty years at The Laundermat on Violet Avenue in Poughkeepsie, and previously as an aide at Violet Avenue Elementary School for many years.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Poughkeepsie.
Born in Poughkeepsie on November 7, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes M. Crapser Plunkett. She was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School.
On November 3, 1957 in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, she married Vincent P. Kane. Her husband predeceased her on August 28, 2007.
She is survived by two sons, Vincent E. Kane and wife, Shannon, of Livingston, NY, and Richard A. Kane and wife, Cynthia, of Hyde Park; five grandchildren, Vincent E. Kane Jr., Joseph Kane, Larry Hauptman, Cheryl Giles and husband, Douglas, and Grace Jones; four great grandchildren, Gunner and Tucker Giles, Destinee Hauptman, and Corwin Santiago; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 pm, Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Wednesday, May 27th at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in the family plot in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2678 South Road, Suite 102, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Francis Hospital Intensive Care Unit for their care and comfort.
