Hyde Park - Beatrice M. Sheffield, 89, died Sunday, March 22, peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 17, 1919 in Callands, Virginia to the late John Mark and Gillian Austin Manning. She was married to George D. Sheffield who predeceased her in 1958.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen S. Cooper (Charles) of Hyde Park, and son, Girard M. Sheffield of Lafayette, Colorado. In addition to her children, she leaves her four cherished grandchildren, Laura Cooper Corrado (Daniel) of Hopewell Junction, Carolyn Cooper Johnson (Darren) of Somers, New York, Bryan C. Sheffield of California and Robert A. Sheffield of Washington, D.C.; as well as three adored great-grandchildren, Bradford Daniel Corrado of Hopewell Junction, and Derek Armstrong and Cate Beatrice Johnson of Somers.
She is also survived by two sisters, Marcella Gooding and Thelma Johnson; and one brother, John W. Manning, all of Virginia.
Mrs. Sheffield graduated from Callands High School and Averett College in Virginia. She retired from Dutchess Community College in 1986 where for 30 years she was Assistant to the President. She was also a recording secretary to the Board of Trustees for 30 years.
Mrs. Sheffield served as office manager to Robert A. Bleakley during his four-year term as Mayor of the City of Poughkeepsie. She was elected president of the Poughkeepsie Business and Professional Business Women's Club and the Sojourner Business Women's Club. She served a 12 year term as an appointed member of the Hyde Park Recreation Commission.
In accordance with Beatrice's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet’s Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
