Poughkeepsie - Audrey Lois Jung Bercaw, 83,beloved mother and grandmother and a longtime Poughkeepsie resident, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 14, 2009 at home.
Mrs. Bercaw was an administrative secretary at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie until her retirement in 1987. Prior to Vassar, she was a secretary at Netherwood Elementary School in the Hyde Park Central School District.
She was a volunteer with Hospice, the Mark-it Place in Hyde Park, the reading program at Hyde Park Elementary, and the Parkinson's Support Group. She was also a life-member of the Skyllkill Embroidery Chapter of Hyde Park.
Audrey loved gardening, playing bridge, and driving her many friends to any activity or appointment.
She was a 43 year member of New Hackensack Reformed Church.
Born in Brooklyn on December 14, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William and Elsie Irmscher Jung. She was a 1943 graduate of Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park, NY.
On October 18, 1953 at Floral Park United Methodist Church, she married Henry F. 'Hank' Bercaw. He predeceased her on January 25, 2000.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Brower and husband, Michael, of Hyde Park, and Arlene Lacasse and husband, Stephen, of Keene, NH; four grandchildren, Lauren Brower of Hyde Park, Kristen Brower-Benevento and husband, John, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Michael Lacasse of Hoboken, NJ, and Brian Lacasse of Keene, NH; a sister, Eileen Lawlor of Hyde Park; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Funeral services will be 11 am, Thursday, March 19th at the funeral home. Rev. Keith W. Tamlyn will be officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lawn Crypt Garden at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
