| | | Hyde Park - Philip S. Andros (Phil), 92, a lifelong resident of Hyde Park passed away Wednesday March 4, 2009 at the NYS Veterans Home at Montrose, NY, after a long illness. He was born in Hyde Park October 28, 1916, the son of the late Thomas & Rose Andros.
On September 6, 1941, at St. Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls, Phil married H. Oleta Folster and together they were the owners of the Hyde Park Diner for more than 40 years. Upon retiring from the diner he cooked for Meals on Wheels for 10 years and then served as a volunteer and member of the Board of Directors for an additional 15 years. His wife and lifelong partner, Oleta, also joined him at Meals on Wheels until her death in 1993.
He attended Staatsburg schools and served in the 356th Airborne Squadron, US Army from January 16, 1943 thru November 8, 1945. During WWII Phil was stationed in Europe. A lifelong communicant of Regina Coeli Church, he was also a life member of the Hyde Park Fire Department, and a former member of the Hyde Park American Legion Post 1303 and VFW Post.
In addition to his wife and parents he is also predeceased by one brother, Frank Andros and sisters, Betty McMeekin and Frances Trojan.
Phil is survived by sons David P Andros and wife Susan of Croton on Hudson NY and Brian T Andros and wife Eileen of Hyde Park. He is also survived by grandsons David M. Andros and his wife Melissa of Bethel Ct, Kevin B Andros and his wife Heather of Hyde Park, Eric B Andros and his wife Nadine of Hyde Park, and Sean B Andros of Wantagh, NY; granddaughters Jennifer Andros of Bedford Hills, NY, Melissa Braz and her husband Timothy of N. Salem, NY, Oleta Andros of Croton on Hudson NY and Kaitlyn Andrulis of Chicago, IL; great-grandchildren Hayley, Bethany, Grace, Brendan, and Joseph; one sister Mary Haug of Hyde Park and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours to respect the wishes of Mr. Andros.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Monday, March 9 at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Burial with military honors will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.
