| | | Hyde Park - William H. Kondor Sr., 82, a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, February 28, 2009 at home in Hyde Park.
A Carpenter, Mr. Kondor was a member of the Carpenters Union Local #203/19 for over 50 years until his retirement in 1989.
He was a Third Degree Knight and Life-member of the Hyde Park Knights of Columbus Council 6111, and a communicant of Regina Coeli Church, where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the Regina Coeli Men’s Club and was active in their golf league for many years.
An avid sportsman, Willy liked to golf, hunt, and fish, and was a Life-member of the Crum Elbow Sportsmen’s Assoc. He was also proud to have bowled a perfect 300 game in 1959.
He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal.
Born in Poughkeepsie on September 19, 1926, he was the son of the late Michael Kondor Sr. and Elizabeth Rist Kondor. He was a graduate of Westchester Community College.
On May 21, 1955 in Poughkeepsie, he married Rita Gyscek. Mrs. Kondor survives at home.
Willy was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandpa.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five sons, William Jr. and wife, Susan, of Cape Cod, Mass., Christopher and wife, Pamela, of Orlando, FL, Aaron and wife, Andrea, of Hampton, VA, Daniel and wife, Elisa, of Poughkeepsie, and Mark of Houston, TX; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister, Margaret Kondor, and brother, George Kondor, both of Poughkeepsie; brother, Steve Kondor of Connelly, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Michael, Joseph, and Louis Kondor; and two sisters, Helen Pizzerelli and Elizabeth Bracone.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Sweet's Funeral Home Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. The Hyde Park Knights of Columbus will conduct services during the calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Wednesday, March 4th at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Fr. Michael Palazzo will be officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
