| | | Poughkeepsie - Dorothy S. Balassone, 85, a lifelong local resident of Poughkeepsie, died Sunday February 22, 2009 at Vassar Bros. Medical Center with her family by her side.
She was a loving Mother, who always put her children first. “She was always there when we needed her.”
Dottie was a housewife. After raising 8 children, she and her husband also raised their granddaughter, Rosie.
Our Mother loved bingo and was a volunteer at Mount Carmel School in Poughkeepsie. She was also a former member of the American Legion.
“We have all the fond memories of our Mom to cherish. She is now where she wanted to be; with our dad; she is happy and content.”
Born in Poughkeepsie on May 29, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Lake.
On November 18, 1941 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, she married Michael ‘Moxie’ Balassone. He predeceased her on February 27, 1995 after 54 years of marriage.
She is survived by 8 children; daughter, Carol Balassone and her granddaughter, Rosie Campbell, both at home; son, Louis Balassone and companion, Vicky, of Rhinebeck; daughter, Joan Mulcahy and husband, Hugh, and daughter, Donna Croshier and husband, Jeff, all of Highland; daughter, Dawn Fozo and husband, Michael, and daughter, Diana Campbell and husband, Veron, and daughter, Michele Balassone, all of Poughkeepsie; and daughter, Helen Pease of South Carolina.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am, Thursday, February 26th at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Poughkeepsie.
Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
