Into Heaven’s arms, Russell Wayne “Flip” Carlson, formerly of Boone passed away in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday, June 14, 2009 joining his Mother and Father for Eternal Life.
Raised in Boone by Glen “Bus” and Dora “Dottie” (Gragg) Carlson, Russ attended Boone schools and excelled in swimming and baseball at Boone High. After graduating in 1966 with honors, he attended Park College in Parkville, Missouri. In 1968, Russ joined the US Navy and spent the next four years serving his country.
Russ met the “Love of His Life”, Linda Young, while stationed in California. They married in October of 1970. Russ and Linda lived in Bethesda, Maryland, Iowa City, Iowa and Joplin, Missouri before ending back in California where he & Linda first met and resided. Nashville, Tennessee is where they now call home.
He is survived by his wife Linda; a daughter, Cameo Dawn, and husband Mike who also live in Nashville, Tennessee, a daughter, Heather JoAnn, and a son, Timothy Cain, both living around the Sacramento, California area.
Others who shared his life are sisters; Dawn Carlson Janssen and husband Gary, Kim Carlson Dietz and husband Steve and Glenda Carlson Latremore and husband Leo; a brother Troy Carlson and wife Elisa; nephews; Jude and wife Cindy, Evan, Nathan and wife Laryssa, Marshall, Kyle, Christopher and wife Alissa; nieces; Kira and husband Josh, Leah and husband Eric, Eryn, Halley, Miranda, Lori and husband Jerry, Krissy and husband Scott and Amy.
Russ’ wishes were to be cremated.
A memorial service will be held on Friday afternoon, June 19th at 1:30 p.m. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone with Pastor Dick Dahle officiating.
Interment of his urn will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.
