| | | Leroy Hansen, 88, formerly of 1204 Country Club Drive, Boone, IA, passed away at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, IA on Wednesday morning, April 25, 2007. He had been a resident at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone since April of 2006.
He was born on October 17, 1918 in Blue Island, IL, the son of Edward and Catherine (Warncke) Hansen.
On July 31, 1946, he married Colleen Brown at Troy, Kansas.
Leroy was a 1937 graduate of Boone High School. He worked at Iowa Electric Light and Power before entering the service. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre in the Ammunition Depot for 4 years. Following the war, he rejoined Iowa Electric Light and Power where he was a Divisional Storekeeper until his retirement in 1983 after 43 years of employment. Leroy helped organize and served as Captain for the Civil Defense in Boone County for a number of years, and volunteered with the development of Don Williams Lake. He enjoyed roller skating, camping, golfing, hunting, and fishing.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and American Legion.
His parents and half brother, Harry Schroeder preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Colleen, of Boone, IA, a son, Troy Hansen of Hiawatha, IA, a daughter, Sylvia Mungon of Tampa, FL, a son Elmo Hansen of Boone, IA, 5 grandchildren, Heather Low of Clearwater, FL, Keith Mungon of Granbury, TX, Brent, Bradley, and Justin Hansen all of Boone, IA, and 2 great-grandsons, Jared and Ethan Low of Clearwater, FL.
Services will be held on Saturday morning, April 28th at 10:00 A.M. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone with Pastor Lindsay Watkins officiating.
Interment will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa.
Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Saturday morning from 8:00 A.M. until time of service.
The family will be present at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. to greet friends.
Memorials may be given to Boone County Conservation - Don Williams Park Projects or Trinity Lutheran Church Music Department.
