Leola C. Moore Andrews, 96, formerly of 229 South Greene Street in Boone, Iowa passed away at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone on Thursday morning, November 9, 2006. She had been a resident at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone since January of 1998.

She was born on December 20, 1909 in Keokuk County, Iowa the daughter of Roy and Fannie (Kerr) Moore.

On May 26, 1934, she married E.E. "Andy" Andrews at the Congregational parsonage in Maquoketa, Iowa.

She graduated from Sigourney High School and from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in 1929 where she received her teaching diploma. She taught elementary school in Andrew and Preston, Iowa from 1929 to 1934. During her married life, Leola and Andy lived in Oakville, Elwood, Clarksville, University Park (Oskaloosa), North English, Panora, Luther, Ames, and Boone, IA. Leola returned to teaching in the elementary schools while the family was living in North English, Panora, and United Community School District. She retired from United Community in 1974.

Leola enjoyed reading, gardening, painting, sewing, and writing stories about her family. She especially enjoyed making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. Her oil paintings are treasured by her family members.

Leola was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church and American Legion Auxiliary.

Her parents, husband of 66 years, Andy, in December of 2000, infant twin sons Jack and Jerry, stepmother, Dell Moore, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters preceded her in death.

Survivors include 4 daughters Dr. Jane Andrews and husband Bob Hedden of Green Valley, AZ, Judy (Jim) Hunt of Hot Springs Village, AR, Jan (Bob) Johnson of Boone, IA, Vicki Andrews-Pietz and husband Tom Pietz of Boone, IA, 1 son, Dr. John (Judy) Andrews of Grand Junction, CO, 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Tuesday morning, November 14th at 10:00 A.M. at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone, Iowa with Pastor Dick Dahle officiating.

Interment will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa.

Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the Augustana Lutheran Church on Tuesday morning from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service.

The family will be present at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. to greet friends.

Memorials may be made to the United Community Education Foundation for scholarships.
