| Edith Appenzeller, 97, of Boone, Iowa, passed away at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone on Monday afternoon, October 23, 2006. She had been a resident at the Eastern Star Masonic Home since July of 2003.
She was born on July 13, 1909, in rural Bedford, Iowa, the daughter of Ira and Effie (Smith) Roberts. On November 2, 1935, she married Fred Appenzeller at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Edith graduated from high school in Conway, Iowa, and from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. She worked for 10 years as a secretary at the Des Moines Co-Op Dairy Marketing Association until the birth of her first child. After living in Des Moines for 10 years, she and her husband and 2 children moved to Boone in 1945 where she has lived ever since as a homemaker. She volunteered at the Boone County Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Boone Golf and Country Club. Edith enjoyed reading and word puzzles and played bridge with various clubs. Her parents, husband, Fred Appenzeller, in 1990, 1 great-grandson, Bryce Donley, and 3 sisters, Earlis Norton, Eathel Hill, and Mildred DeVoe preceded her in death. Survivors include her son, Bob (Carolyn) Appenzeller of Boone, IA, a daughter, Judy (Cliff) LaMotte of St. Louis, MO, 2 granddaughters, April (Dave) Donley of Orrtanna, PA, Julie (Steve) Glasure of Pleasantville, OH, 2 step-grandchildren, Laurel (Dennis) Reeser and Larry (Kim) LaMotte both of Seattle, WA, 3 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Friday afternoon, October 27, 2006, at 1:00 P.M. at Linwood Park Cemetery with Denis R. James Sr., D.D. officiating. Interment will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa. Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Thursday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and on Friday morning from 8:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon when the casket will be taken to the cemetery for services. The family will be present at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Thursday, October 26, from 5:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. to greet friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Ericson Public Library or the Boone Area Humane Society. Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements. | ||
