| | | Lucy Zanker, 97, formerly of 515 Mamie Eisenhower Avenue in Boone, Iowa passed away at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa on Thursday morning, August 17, 2006. She had been a resident at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford, Iowa until November of 2005 when she moved to the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.
She was born on August 16, 1909 in Boone, Iowa the daughter of Denver and Lota (Fovargue) Stotts.
On February 11, 1928, she married Ernest R. Zanker at the Christian Church parsonage in Boone, Iowa.
Lucy was a homemaker and in younger years worked as an operator for the telephone company. After the couple moved to Ames, Iowa in 1961, she was employed at Bourne’s Electronics in Ames, Iowa for 10 years before retiring in 1969. In 1973, the couple moved back to Boone to make their home. Until her sight began to fail, Lucy enjoyed crocheting and in earlier years belonged to the NGO (Never Grow Old) crocheting club.
She was a member of the Central Christian Church of Boone, Iowa.
Her parents, husband Ernie in December of 1992, 1 daughter Faye Zanker in July of 2004, 1 son-in-law, Ellery “Curly” Conlin in August of 2005, 1 granddaughter Victoria Jean Conlin, 2 brothers Francis Stotts and Joe Stotts, and 4 sisters Ruby Brausey, Ruth Barger, Grace Kline and Marie Ross preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son Rev. Gerald Zanker and his wife Carol of Marysville, Kansas, 1 daughter Marcella Conlin of Boone, Iowa, 1 grandson Bruce Conlin and his wife Paula of Boone, Iowa, 4 granddaughters Renee Sheibley and her husband Tim of Boone, Iowa, Barbara Gillman and her husband Todd of Garland, Texas, Janel Zanker of Marysville, Kansas, Pamela Parkins and her husband Calvin of Mead, Nebraska, 2 great-grandsons Sean Conlin and his wife Lyndsey of Boone, Iowa, Jason Gillman of Garland, Texas; 9 great-granddaughters Monique Sheibley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Bethany Gillman of Garland, Texas, Elizabeth, Brittany, Hailey, Paige, Alyssa, Kristyna and Natalee Parkins all of Mead, Nebraska; 4 step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and interment will be held on Monday morning, August 21st at 10:30 A.M. at the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone with Rev. Paul Fraser officiating.
Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and on Monday morning from 8:00 A.M. until 9:30 A.M. when the casket will be taken to the cemetery for services.
The family will be present at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. to greet friends.
