David H. Buttrick, Jr., 84, of 1354 – 270th Street in Boone passed away at the Boone County Hospital on Sunday morning, September 26, 2010.

He was born on May 25, 1926 in Arlington, Massachusetts the son of David H. and Kate (Taylor) Buttrick.

On July 7, 1951, he married Germaine Dube at Gilford, New Hampshire.

David graduated from Arlington High School, the University of New Hampshire majoring in Animal Husbandry, and did graduate work while attending Iowa State University. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy aboard aircraft carriers in the North Atlantic. David succeeded his grandfather by taking over the management of Dairy Products by Buttrick in Arlington, Massachusetts. The couple later moved to Harvard, Massachusetts working for Whitney Lane Farms. Before retiring in 1989 and moving to Boone, David was a sales representative for John Deere while living in Vermont.

David loved the out-of-doors whether it was sailing or snowmobiling; kept busy with his woodworking projects; enjoyed listening to gospel music and doing crossword puzzles or playing games, especially cribbage; but most of all enjoyed a good cookie and ice cream.

He was a member of the Central Iowa Two-Cylinder Club, Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at ISU and a former member of the Masonic Lodge and Rotary Club while living in Massachusetts.

His parents and a sister, Nancy, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Germaine of Boone; 3 daughters Leslie Clancy of Enfield, New Hampshire, Martha Reinertson and husband Eric of Huxley, Iowa, and Susan Hill and husband Harvey of Bedford, Texas; a son David Jonathan Buttrick and wife Jill of Fairplay, Colorado; 4 grandchildren Lauren Flood of Enfield, New Hampshire, Joshua Hill of Virginia, Jonathan Hill of Branson, Missouri and Kacey Buttrick of Fairplay, Colorado.

David’s request was to be cremated.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday morning, September 30th at 10:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Boone with Pastor Duane Lundberg officiating.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the family for a memorial to be determined at a later date.
