Harry F. Echternach, 82, formerly of Boone and currently of Whittier, California passed away at the Placentia Regional Hospital in Placentia, California on Monday, July 5, 2010.

He was born on April 11, 1928 in Boone, Iowa the son of Chester and Norma (Mauch) Echternach.

Harry was a graduate of the Boone High School and Boone Junior College.

On November 7, 1950, he married Doris L. Sparks in the Baptist Church parsonage in Bentonville, Arkansas.

Harry was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. Following his discharge from the military, the couple moved back to Boone. For many years, Harry and Doris operated the Echternach Grocery store in Boone. In 1964, they moved to Whittier, California. In 1976, the couple opened La Petite Florist, which Harry owned and operated for 34 years.

He was a member of the Brea Baptist Church in Brea, California.

His parents; wife Doris in April of 2005; 2 brothers Chet and John; and an infant son and daughter preceded him in death.

Survivors include a sister Joyce Dunn of Burns Flat, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews including Donna Fiorina and Sharon Sparks of both Boone, and Sean Sparks of Eugene, Oregon who lived with Doris and Harry for several years.

Graveside services with interment of the cremains will be held on Saturday morning, September 25th at 10:00 a.m. at the Sparks Cemetery southwest of Boone with Rev. John Sparks officiating.

Military honors will be conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.
