| Delilah Louise Ahrens was born January 30, 1929 in Boone, Iowa to George and Mamie Pearson. She was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone. She married Raymond L. Ahrens in 1947. Her entire adult life she was an active churchwoman at Augustana Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone. At various times she was president of the PTA, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, quilted, and organized and served at many church dinners, weddings, funerals and other functions.
After she graduated from Boone High School in 1947, she worked at the Fareway Company. Later she worked at Kruck Plumbing & Heating for many years as a bookkeeper. She also served as bookkeeper for Ahrens Builders, the longtime partnership of Raymond and Warren Ahrens. She was active in civic, community and charitable organizations too numerous to be listed. She was a master tournament and duplicate bridge player. Her husband died in 2005. She is survived by her sister Edna Pearson of Northfield, IL; two sons, Gary A. Ahrens (Patricia) of Milwaukee, WI and Eric G. Ahrens (Ellen) of Lansing, MI; three grandchildren, Christopher J. Ahrens (Aime) of Jackson, S.C., Christian P. R. Ahrens (Cherylyn) of New York City, NY and Ursula H.C. Ahrens of Philadelphia, PA; and two great grandchildren, Adam Ahrens and Sophia Ahrens. She had a penetrating intellect and a bountiful spirit. She set an example of pursuing and achieving excellence in everything she did. As her sons know best, while she suffered fools only modestly, she was tirelessly patient and forgiving. She was totally unselfish. For all who knew her, Delilah Louise Ahrens lived a life of Christian faith active in love. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday November 7, 2008 at Augustana Lutheran Church, 309 South Greene Street, Boone, Iowa. Internment will be at Bass Point Cemetery, North Marion Drive, Boone Iowa. | ||
