| Erma Fast, 93 of 2003 Cedar Street in Boone, passed away at the Boone County Hospital in Boone on Sunday morning, May 25, 2008.
She was born on July 15, 1914 near Cuba, Missouri the daughter of Clarence and Russie (Garrett) Steele. The family moved to Iowa and settled on a farm in Audubon County. Erma graduated from Viola Consolidated High School in 1932. She attended Cosmetology School in Des Moines and was employed at Maxons Beauty Shop for a few years. Erma was employed as a beautician at the Eastern Star Home for a year and worked for 17 years in the Beauty Shop at the Evangelical Free Church Home. On January 3, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa, she married Carl Nelson Fast, the son of Arthur and Alta (Poffenbarger) Fast of Adel, Iowa. The couple farmed near Adel before moving to their Boone County farm in 1945. They lived and farmed there for the next 20 years, moving to Boone in 1965. She was a member of the Boone Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and a past member of the Boone Garden Club. While on the farm, she had been an active member in her community. Her parents, husband Carl in June of 1994, 1 brother and 3 sisters preceded her in death. Survivors include 3 daughters; Norma Fast of Beaver, Iowa, Carol Lamer and husband Leon of Marshalltown, Iowa, Elizabeth Browning and husband Rick of Boone, Iowa; 5 grandchildren Mechiele Winters and husband John, Jr. of Green Mountain, Iowa, Monte Lamer and wife Pheu of Atkins, Iowa, Mark Lamer and wife Julie of Haverhill, Iowa, Brian Kemmerer and Dean Browning both of Boone, Iowa; 10 great-grandchildren, Sierra, Chase, Noah and Kasey Winters, Justice, Shakayla and Sandreana Lamer, Alexandra and Kaitlyn Lamer and Katelyn Kemmerer; and 1 sister, Eugenia Letterman of Ames, Iowa. Her family and friends were important to her and she always enjoyed spending time with them. Services will be held on Wednesday afternoon, May 28th at 1:30 p.m. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone with David Borsos officiating. Interment will be in the Gilbert Cemetery in Gilbert, Iowa. Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family will be present on Tuesday evening at the Stark-Welin Chapel from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. to greet friends. | ||
